The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl, “Fairytale of New York”
Oh, this is your favorite Christmas song? Congratulations, you’re a real saddo. Consider: Kirsty MacColl was killed in a ‘controversial’ boating accident on vacation in Mexico; while swimming, she pushed one of her sons out of the way of an oncoming powerboat, which then struck and killed her. That’s still not as sad as this song. Once, during like, June or some other non-December month, I was in Lucy’s, that bar across the street from Tompkins Square Park, and someone played this song on the jukebox. Half the bar left.
